Volmech officially started trading in 2018, when Stephen Bishop and Thomas Hickey merged their two electrical companies.The pair was introduced to each other in 2014 to undertake a combined partnership and delivery of a NHS contract in Kent.
Becoming friends, they also started to build a partnership within the electrical industry, sharing labour, project management and office space. This went on for several years before the guys made a business decision to merge the two companies, combining their services, knowledge, and clientele.
Capitalising on their experience with the NHS they decided to pivot the business towards public sector work by joining NHS & Education frameworks as well as working alongside main contractors who specialise in this sector.
Volmech now have a Mechanical, Fire & Security and Renewables division to further enable the delivery of services to construction industry.
Stephen started out his electrical career straight from school, working for a local commercial company which specialised in Pub/Restaurant fit-out & refurbishment. After completing his apprenticeship, he entered the subcontracting world but quickly realised he had the urge to set up on his own. So, in 2013 he formed his first electrical company before merging with Thomas in 2018 to form Volmech.
Thomas completed an apprenticeship at a large specialist heating installer in Kent working on heating systems both domestic and commercial throughout the Southeast, after completing his apprenticeship in 2011 he carried out various sub-contracting works in commercial sectors before setting up on his own in 2015. In 2016 he met Stephen, and they began working together before merging to form Volmech in 2018.
Daniel joined Volmech in 2023 from a background in large scale mechanical, having worked for one of the largest M&E contractors in the Southeast he brings vast experience in project management and technical understanding of commercial and residential mechanical installations. He aims to build the mechanical division to be a key player in the mechanical sector in London & the Southeast.
Robert started his electrical career working on heating systems both in domestic and commercial settings, after qualifying he decided to venture into the fire industry and completed an apprenticeship with a company in central London installing and maintaining fire alarm systems in hotels across the city. Robert joined Volmech in 2021 and brings vast experience in both electrical compliance and the Fire industry. Using both attributes it was decided that Volmech would form a new division to capitalise on this knowledge and in early 2023 Volmech Fire and Security was established.
David joined Volmech in 2020 and has been a key part of the electrical division. David who has over 30 years’ experience in the electrical industry ranging from large scale commercial and agriculture to high end multimillion-pound residential refurbishment and newbuild in the heart of London and has worked for many years with prestigious developers such as Grosvenor. David carriers out project pricing as well as electrical design and CAD.
Clare started working for Thomas back in 2017 several days a week completing invoicing and general admin for his first company, Clare was the first office employee at Volmech since it started in 2018 and has been instrumental in the running of Volmech. Starting out with invoicing and scheduling labour she now manages everything from accounts and payroll to HR.
With over 15 years of experience in electrical design and estimation, Dmitrij plays a crucial role in accurately estimating project costs and offering value-engineered solutions for our clients. Dimitrij provides innovative cost-saving measures that not only meet the client's budget but also enhance project efficiency and performance.
His expertise ensures that we deliver excellence in every electrical project.
Rachael Joined Volmech in 2023 and works within the company organising fleet operations for vehicles and compliance for Company PQQ and onboarding of subcontractors and new employees.
Philippa joined the team in 2024 and works within the mechanical department assisting with tender submissions, operations admin and project delivery. The role will be vital in growing the division and reaching our targets.
